We are very grateful for your support and hope you have a safe and fun clean.
Although, the work done with Beautify Hamilton is typically safe and risk-free, please remember to put both your safety and the environment first while participating. We are not liable for any action or injury that may occur during any participation.
Below are a few tips to help you identify any hazards that you may encounter. Be aware of these risks before cleaning and keep in mind that other unexpected risks may be present.
Wildlife
Plants
Please make sure you familiar with toxic plants that are common in Ontario.
It is safest to stick to groomed trails and paths.
Make sure to have proper PPE when completing your clean-up.
Wash your hands with cold, soapy water if you come into contact with a noxious weed.
For extreme cases, seek medical attention.

Ticks
Lyme disease is a potentially serious infection that you can get if you’re bitten by an infected black-legged tick (deer tick).
While the probability is low, it is possible to find an infected tick almost anywhere in Ontario.
Avoid tick bites by covering up, using insect repellant, putting your clothes in the dryer and checking yourself and your pets for ticks.

Wildlife
Rabies is caused by a virus that can infect any mammal, including humans.
Keep a safe distance from any animals you may encounter.
Do not feed or touch any wildlife.
If you see a sick or dead animal, call animal control.

Hazardous Waste
Bio Hazards
Please be extremely cautious when encountering any biohazards during your clean-up.
The bio-hazards that are most common are human feces, needles, drug pipes, and/or other drug paraphernalia.
We recommend that you treat these items as though they are contaminated and do not dispose of them yourself.
Please call the City of Hamilton at 905-546-2489 and they will properly dispose of the bio-hazard.
Hazardous Chemicals
Hazardous chemicals usually have warning symbols (poison, corrosive, flammable etc.).
This includes household items such as batteries.
Please do not pick up this waste, as it should not be disposed of in the garbage.
Please call the City of Hamilton at 905-546-2489 and they will properly dispose of any hazardous waste.
Other Hazards
Beware of any dangerous garbage due to illegal dumping. These include:
